As the Cornwall-Lebanon School District continues to modernize their facilities in 20-25 year cycles per building, Union Canal Elementary School, which was constructed in 1990 (with an addition in 1993) was ready for a full replacement of the aging MPE systems, a new roof, a solution to continual storm water issues, and refreshed interiors.

A preference to separate the auditorium use from the current dual-use cafeteria lead to a 10,615 s.f. addition with a new tiered LGI (similar to another space that Diversified Design had designed elsewhere in the District). With a new lobby including restrooms and a security office, parent drop-off by car could be separated from the bus traffic. The offices, health suite and guidance areas were completely reconfigured; and, a new 494 s.f. addition contains a larger conference room.

Interiors of the existing 84,496 s.f. Union Canal Elementary school were refreshed by new finishes and a colorful painting scheme. The dramatic changes to the ceilings in the library and cafeteria included new brightly-colored curving metal panels systems integrated with new lighting.
